So it’s been a while. A little too long, actually, since I’ve written anything or really blogged at all.
Well, here it goes.
Since November, which was when my last post was, I have been going through so much personal BS, it’s ridiculous. All kinds of crap, relationship problems, work problems, more relationship problems… but all is, more or less, back together now. Meanwhile, I’ve still been participating musically, and since that’s what I try to keep this aimed at, that’s what I’m going to talk about.
So I’m still playing with my band, Leviathan. As of now, we’re mostly a cover band. We play one original tune and it’s an instrumental. We had been looking for a singer for a while, but I eventually just started doing the vocals myself and that’s been an interesting thing. Playing with this band has had it’s fair share of up and down feelings from me. I’ve had arguments with the other guitar player and the bass player about tuning down a half step to accommodate my voice. The bass player has been in and out of the band several times, and it shows, because the last two shows we had he kept fucking up, big time. The other guitar player still thinks he’s Jeff Hanneman or something, but really doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing. I don’t claim to be some kick ass guitar player, but I can admit when I don’t know something or seek help if my limited knowledge doesn’t cover what I’m doing.
So, with that, I started looking for other musicians to jam with, which I’ve found a few. One group of musicians was actually my friend’s boyfriend’s band (by the way, my friend is the singer for this band called Crossed Keys, you should check them out. http://www.facebook.com/crossedkeys). So I jammed with these guys a few times, but after a while, I stopped hearing from them and that became a big huge flake fest. Needless to say that band fell through. It’s a shame too, because they showed promise. Oh well.
Other than that, I’m just trying to find another band that I can play in that will be closer by, actually be good and maybe I won’t feel so embarrassed to play any gigs!! Haha!!
As for me personally, I’ve been, more or less, just trying to write music. I feel I need to at least attempt to write lyrics, but writing ideas down in a “song” format, is not exactly easy to me, but hey, it’s worth a shot, right?
I’ve been working on my speed and accuracy for lead guitar, as well as working on my theory with arpeggios and more exotic scales. Slowly but surely things are coming along. I’m also working on my musical ear more as well. I started trying to learn songs by this band called Holy Grail (they kick ass, you should check them out). I’ve learned one song, including solo and harmonies, by them and I’m stoked. The other one I’m cheating on because they put out a “how to” video on Guitar World’s website. Although just to learn that song, I’ve really had to sit with my metronome and work shit out. It’s pretty cool though. I’m feeling very motivated.
I guess that’s about it for now. I’ll try and update more regularly. Take care folks.
